September arrives as Wesleyan students return. Downtown Middletown grows busier, and summer at Klekolo begins its turn toward fall.
At Klekolo, we head into the new season with local art on the walls and a full five Tuesdays of live music.
This September, Clockwork Tattoo & Art Gallery returns as our featured artist. And the Klekolo Sessions bring singer-songwriters, acoustic music, Americana Soul, alternative rock, and a full band to our little corner of Court Street.
Whether you’re returning to Middletown for another semester, have lived here for years, or are just passing through, there’s plenty happening at Klekolo this September.
September Art: Clockwork Tattoo & Art Gallery
Clockwork Tattoo and Art Gallery returns to Klekolo this September, filling the coffeehouse walls with work from artists whose creativity extends beyond the tattoo studio.
They’ve exhibited with us many times over the years, including 2025 and 2020 and we’re always glad to see what they’ve been creating.
The Middletown studio is home to artists whose work doesn’t end with tattooing. September’s exhibit brings that creativity off the skin and onto Klekolo’s walls, with work that reflects the different styles and perspectives of the artists at Clockwork.
If you know their tattoo work, come see another side of it. If you don’t, this is a great introduction to a group of artists working right here in Middletown.
The exhibit will be up throughout September at Klekolo World Coffee.

September Live Music at Klekolo
September brings five Tuesday nights of live music to Klekolo Sessions, plus a special Thursday performance by Connecticut singer-songwriter Shannon McMahon.
From folk and Americana to alternative rock and acoustic storytelling, there’s something happening nearly every week this month.
September 1 — J Edmond
J. Edmond opens September’s live music lineup with songs that are personal, reflective, and meant to be felt.
A Connecticut singer-songwriter formerly known as Jebb, he’s a prolific musician whose work explores identity, mental health, change, and the experiences that shape us.
Expect an intimate performance from a songwriter who brings everything he has to the music.
September 3 — Shannon McMahon (Special Thursday Performance)
Join us for a a special Thursday evening featuring Connecticut singer-songwriter Shannon McMahon.
Blending contemporary folk, rich vocals, and heartfelt storytelling, Shannon has been writing and performing since childhood.
Her warm, expressive voice and thoughtful songs have earned comparisons to artists like Joan Baez and Natalie Merchant, creating performances that are both intimate and memorable.

September 8 — PJ Childs
Meriden singer-songwriter PJ Childs brings a slower acoustic sound to Klekolo, pairing melancholy originals with familiar covers given a nostalgic twist.
His music leans reflective and intimate, making this a night for settling in and listening closely.

September 15 — Will Sims
September gets louder when Will Sims takes the Klekolo stage.
Rooted in alternative rock and heavily influenced by the sounds of the ’90s, Will brings a mix of raw energy, strong songwriting, and heartfelt performances.
With three albums to his name, he’s shared stages with national acts including Puddle of Mudd, 12 Stones, and Saving Abel.
September 22 — Split River Band
Split River brings a full-band night to Klekolo with a mix of alternative and pop-rock favorites from the ’90s and early 2000s, along with original music.
The four-piece East Hartford band has been playing around central Connecticut for several years, with appearances at the Hungry Tiger and the Manchester Road Race.

September 29 — Steven Harz
Steven Harz closes out September with his blend of Americana Soul — original songs rooted in country, folk, and the stories we carry with us. His music moves through love and loss, home and heartache, alongside acoustic interpretations of songs spanning the ’60s through today. It’s a fitting way to wrap up five Tuesdays of live music at Klekolo.
