Editor’s Note: This post was first published in 2012.Klekolo featured Papua New Guinea Purosa as our Coffee of the Day. We don’t currently carry this origin, but we’re keeping this article live as part of our coffee archive.
Papua New Guinea is an island of breathtaking scenery and vibrant culture. With abundant rainfall and rich volcanic soil, the land is perfectly suited for cultivating remarkable coffees.
Back in 2012, we proudly served Papua New Guinea A Purosa. Fair Trade and organic-certified coffee grown in the Eastern Highlands Province. Purosa sits about 93 kilometers southwest of Goroka, the region’s capital, and is a hub for community-driven coffee activity.
This coffee was prized for its high-grade, large beans that roasted evenly and brewed with a consistently beautiful flavor.
The taste was exquisite and untamed — smooth and chocolaty, lifted with bright citrus and a touch of spice. Many of us also noticed hints of vanilla and cacao. Both are crops that flourish in the same fertile soils of the Highlands.
At Klekolo, we offered this coffee on tap for our customers to enjoy on a Friday. We shared single-brew cups (Pour Over) available daily as long as supplies lasted. It quickly became one of my personal favorites. A cup that felt both wild and refined, carrying the unmistakable essence of Papua New Guinea.
Papua New Guinea Purosa is long gone from the Coffee house, but it remains a special chapter in Klekolo’s story. Every origin we feature carries the land, the people, and the flavor with it. Sharing those stories has always mattered to us just as much as brewing the cup. Hopefully, we will get this one back some day.

I read this blog last night and am drinking a cup now – awesome coffee and your blog is nicely done.
I once dated a girl from Papau New Guinea. I guess when I get coffee I should think of her.
I imagine she had a wild streak.
