Coffee Christmas Cookies – A Festive Treat for the Holiday Season

Baking cookies during the holidays is a tradition that fills your home with an inviting aroma. These coffee-infused delights will add a new twist to traditional favorites.

The magic begins when you blend coffee or espresso into your cookie dough. This creates an intoxicating aroma and flavor profile that marries beautifully with other ingredients such as dark chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, etc.

The Magic Blend of Holiday Spirit and Coffee Flavors

Imagine biting into a cookie that captures your favorite coffee flavors! The rich aroma wafting from freshly baked treats is sure to evoke warm memories and create new ones. Combining traditional cookie recipes with distinct coffee notes adds an unexpected twist that can delight caffeine enthusiasts and sweet-toothed individuals.

A Dash of Espresso Powder Amplifies Flavor

One expert tip is adding espresso powder to your recipe. Just like how salt enhances sweetness, a hint of bitterness from espresso amplifies chocolatey goodness, making each bite more intense and satisfying.

If you’re using this trick on a sugar cookie or brown sugar cookie base, cream the butter (unsalted) well before mixing it with other ingredients. To soften butter properly without melting it can be tricky, but here’s an easy guide on how to do so effectively.

Baking Time Matters: Aim for Golden Brown Goodness.

A perfect golden brown color signals they’re done right. Baking time matters too – our Coffee Cookies with Baileys Frosting bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until their edges turn perfectly golden brown – usually around 12 minutes, depending on size. It’s best practice for aesthetics and texture because slightly underbaked cookies tend to stay fresh longer.

Once they’re baked, let your coffee Christmas cookies cool completely before frosting or storing.

Adding That Festive Touch

Though frosting is optional, it certainly brings a festive touch and an extra layer of flavor.

Baileys Coffee Buttercream

Ingredients:

1 cup butter – room temp softened

4 cups (480g) confectioners’ sugar

1/2 teaspoon finely ground coffee

3 Tablespoons  Bailey’s Irish Cream

1 and 1/2 Tablespoons strong black coffee, cooled to room temperature

pinch of salt

Make the frosting:

Mixer fitted with a paddle, beat the butter at medium speed until creamy, about 2 minutes. Add confectioners’ sugar, coffee powder, Baileys, and coffee.

Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then increase to medium-high speed and beat for 2 full minutes.

Add up to 1/2 cup more confectioners’ sugar if the frosting is too thin or another Tablespoon of Baileys if the frosting is too thick. Add a touch of salt if the frosting is too sweet.

** Substitute bourbon, Kahlua, or any spirit in this frosting recipe.. experiment.

Go all out this Christmas!

Espresso Chocolate Chip Cookies

This recipe is sure to be a party pleaser. It perfectly blends together flavors that tantalize the taste buds.

The secret ingredient here is espresso powder – it lends a rich depth to the classic chocolate chip cookie recipe. It’s just like adding salt to caramel; something about the combination makes both tastes shine brighter.

 Espresso Chocolate Chip Cookies:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons espresso powder
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  •     Preheat 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Put parchment paper or a mat on your baking sheet.
  •    Cream room temperature butter and the sugars. You want the mixture to be fluffy and well combined.
  •     Add egg and vanilla extract to the above mixture at room temperature and continue to mix until everything is well incorporated.
  •     Whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and espresso powder until the dry ingredients are evenly combined.
  •     Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until the dough combines. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the cookies tough.
  •    Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips,
  •     Drop rounded tablespoons of cookie dough onto the baking sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  • Chill for 1/2 hour ( this helps keep their shape.)
  •     Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until the cookies are lightly golden around the edges but still soft in the center.
  •     Once done, remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack before serving or storing.

Give these recipes a try this holiday season. You may find they are exactly what you need to add extra festivity to your celebrations.

Coffee Sugar Cookies

If you’re craving the sweet nostalgia of sugar cookies but want a new twist, then these classic coffee sugar cookies are for you. They pack all the delightful flavor and texture of traditional holiday treats with an unexpected hint of coffee.

Baking the Perfect Coffee Sugar Cookies

Perfect Coffee Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour(all-purpose)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup butter (unsalted) at room temperature
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons espresso powder

Instructions:

Step 1: Cream Butter and Sugar

Beat the butter and salt at medium speed for about a minute. Scrape down the bowl. Add sugar, espresso powder and beat till smooth.  Beat in egg and vanilla. Mix until well combined.

Step 2: Adding the Dry Ingredients

Combine all-purpose flour and baking powder. Gradually add this dry mix to the creamed mix while stirring gently. Be patient during this step to ensure an even distribution of ingredients in the dough.

Add a little of the flour at a time with the mixer on low. Stop to scrape your bowl. The dough will form a ball around the paddle. The dough should be soft but not sticky.

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and press it into a 1-inch thick disk. Chill for 30 minutes to an hour before rolling.

Step 3: Shaping and Baking

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Roll the dough to about a ¼ inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Use additional flour as needed to prevent sticking. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Re-roll the remaining dough and continue cutting.

Arrange cookies on baking sheets about 1 inch apart. Chill in the freezer for 10 minutes.

Bake one sheet at a time in the middle of the oven for about 7-10 minutes. How cookies look in the oven is more important than time since each oven is different. These cookies should be puffy.

Step 4: Cooling and Decorating

Once done, remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool completely on wire racks.

If desired, you can frost and decorate the cookies with candied sugar and chocolate chips, dip them in chocolate or white chocolate, or other decorations once they have cooled. Try the Coffee drizzle below.

These cookies are perfect for any occasion, whether enjoyed plain or beautifully decorated!

A Sweet Finish: Coffee Drizzle

The final touch to these heavenly cookies is a coffee drizzle. Adding a coffee glaze made from dissolving granules in water and stirring with powdered sugar gives these cookies an extra layer of sweetness to complement their bold flavor.

Just imagine biting into one; first, you feel the crispness of golden brown edges. Then, soft interiors meet your taste buds, all crowned with a subtly sweet, unforgettable finish.
