🌍 Origin & Elevation
Farmers grow this coffee in the Takengon Highlands of Aceh, Sumatra (learn more about the Aceh region), at elevations between 1,000 and 1,500 meters.
Because of the region’s volcanic soil and cooler mountain climate, the coffee develops a dense structure and deep flavor. In turn, this creates the heavy body and low acidity that Sumatra coffees are known for.
🌿 Farmer Story & Cooperative
This coffee is produced by the Gayo Arabika Mahkota Indonesia (GARMINDO) cooperative.
More than 760 smallholder farmers across 13 villages contribute to this co-op. These family farms grow coffee on small plots throughout Aceh Tengah and Bener Meriah.
GARMINDO provides ongoing training to its members. As a result, farmers continue to improve quality, refine harvest techniques, and adopt more sustainable farming practices.
We’ve sourced coffee from this group for years, supporting both quality and long-term relationships in the region.
🌊 Processing Method
This coffee is processed using Sumatra’s traditional wet-hulled method, also known as giling basah.
Because of this process, the coffee develops its signature profile—heavy body, low acidity, and deep earthy character. At the same time, the method helps preserve the bold, complex flavors that define Sumatran coffee.
🌀 Flavor Notes
This coffee leans deep and earthy from the start.
As it opens, dark cocoa leads the cup, followed by warm spice and a smooth, almost syrupy body. The finish lingers, making each sip feel full and satisfying.
✨ Best Use
This coffee shines in French press, where its body and depth come through fully.
It also works well as a bold drip coffee or espresso for those who enjoy a strong, low-acid cup.
