Kenya Nyeri Coffee Origin & Elevation
This coffee grows in Nyeri County, about 150 kilometers north of Nairobi, nestled between two of East Africa’s most dramatic landmarks — Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Range. At elevations ranging from 1,700 to 1,890 meters, coffee cherries ripen slowly, developing the dense sweetness and bright acidity that make Nyeri one of the most respected coffee regions in the world.
The area’s rich red volcanic soil and cool highland climate create conditions that consistently produce some of Kenya’s finest beans.
The Farmers Behind the Coffee
The Othaya Farmers Co-operative Society was registered in 1956 with just 250 farmers. Today it has grown to include 17 wet mills and over 11,000 smallholder members. Iaf Each farmer tends a small plot, hand-picking only the ripest red cherries at harvest — then delivering them to one of the cooperative’s local processing facilities, called factories.
The cooperative is Fair Trade certified, maintains coffee nurseries, and provides farm inputs, equipment, and seedlings to its members. Farm management workshops are offered regularly, and factory managers receive ongoing training in wet mill best practices.
The society also cups samples from every lot delivered during harvest season — an unusually rigorous quality control commitment for a cooperative of this scale. The result is a consistency and transparency that specialty coffee buyers around the world have come to rely on.

Coffee Processing
The coffee is fully washed and dried on raised beds, a traditional Kenyan method that enhances clarity, brightness, and structure in the cup.
What Makes It a Peaberry
Most coffee cherries produce two flat beans. Occasionally, a cherry forms a single round bean known as a peaberry.
These beans are separated during processing and are often prized for their concentrated flavor and balanced roasting characteristics.
